Car crash compensation estimate

Hi,

I've tried googling this but cant see anything.

I've had a crash last year where i sustained minior whiplash and quite a serious shoulder injury where ive torn a muscle and require physio first then if that doesnt work then i require surgery to sow the muscles back together.

My question is roughly how much should i receive for this?

Thanks

It depends on how bad the injury turns out to be.

A girlfriend had a similar injury and because of the unpredicted total cost, the interim payment (I think it was £1000) was all the insurance co. would give until three consecutive consultant visits predicted that surgery would not be required. After 3 years total payout was £5000 and as it was a genuine, long-term, painful and no-fault injury, I thought it was too low.

I think what Baldrick was driving at (although indelicately) is that in this day & age, you can't trust anyone who says they're injured after a car incident.

I must admit, my first reaction was the same - If I were involved in some kind of incident I'd have to see limbs hanging off before I actually believed anyone who said they'd been hurt, awful as that is..

Simply because these days the financial benefits of claiming (and claiming is the operative word) to be hurt are so great, and the system seemingly so easy to manipulate (or allowing 3rd party companies to come in & manipulate it on your behalf in return for a cut), that for many people it takes something you can see in order to be believable imo.

Added to the fact that almost all of us have been in a car accident of some type before, and if it really was so easy to sustain injuries/whiplash at 10mph half the population would be perma-cripples, so your sort of internal "believability scale" tends to start off pretty high before you've started.

Now, I must stress that this does sound like an awful thing to say to a stranger, makes me sound like a right miserable old sod and of course if this was the attitude *everyone* took, there would certainly be several genuinely-injured babies thrown out with the bathwater, but tbh that's modern life for you. Go progress! :T

My wife was a passenger in a car turning right which was hit hard from behind, whiplash and still years later some discomfort. She got £6000 but I would try to get a payment that is not full and final as you do not know how you are going to be affected in the years to come.

    A sore shoulder ?

I would say you deserve at least 10 million.

You're the sort of person I would want to be in an accident with, if I have to have one. Hopefully it I wrote of your car, you'd say it was just a scratch and not to worry as well?

If you want constructive comment give the approprate details of the incident and don't waste peoples time reading your half baked posts.
