NSD challenge not to spend anything till 2011!:rotfl:
  • I have recently applied to Direct Payments, which is money given to a disabled person for them to employ whoever they like to care for them. I wasn't aware of this until recently and have spent months paying for a live in au pair with my own money, luckily I know about it now.

I don't know how this works if family care for you?? Perhaps it would be better for you not to care for family, and opt for the Direct Paymnents to pay professional care??

    Just a suggestion x

As I do not know how to post this in another thread...this is to cross reference with Missk_ensingtons other post moaning about the amount of time her Au pair spends with her................ I have to give it to you - you have the whole system sussed. I have read you other posts ... you are clearly very intelligent ...have worked out what you want and how to get it for nothing! You are you own worst enemy - you state you need the Au pair to care for you and requested direct payments ..then say you dont want her with you. You say that it is easy to fake fainting ..you say that its easy to go to the doctors every few months with symptons (unexplained), you openly said you ran up and down the stairs while wearing a heart monitor but said you were watching TV (just in case nothing showed up!) You said that you would say that symptoms were still present even of they were not to keep getting £500 per month that pays your mortgage!!!!!! How you pulled it off to get payments for an Au pair I dont know....blame the system and your obvious knowledge of how to play it ...but to then moan about having to have her around is amazing! I await a bit of a slating...but urge others to actually read through old posts before they are deleted.....they make for interesting reading!!!!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
  • I agree that there really is not much in the way of provisions for carers. I am a full time stay at home mother to me 2 boys, but am also a carer for one. My youngest gets DLA at the lowest rate and because of this we don't get carers allowance although I spend a signifcant amoutn of time tending to his needs (those above and beyond that of a child his age). I agree that some charities are very helpful and worth contacting, but find it depends on the disability, especially when it is not obvious to other poeple (ds has a heart condition, severe eczema and multiple food allergies)

You cant just hire anyone with Direct Payments! They need to be registered as self-employed and sign receipts that you need to give in every 3-6 months. You need to show bank statements and have proof of everywhere and everything the money has been spent on. You would not be able to hire an au-pair with DP's! The money has to be spent on your assessment needs.

The council will also ask for names and addresses of carers that you hire to make sure they are risgiestered with the IR.

The Independent Living Funds are for the disabled person and seem to be mainly for paying for a carer. (I haven't read full details.)
