Car insurance renewal help please!

Hi all
Bit confused - just got the car insurance renewal through from Admiral, 848 which is more expensive than last year (no claims or anything since then).
Looked on confused.com and strangely enough, the cheapest quote to come up was Admiral - for 472! (sorry, my pound sign isn't working)
Can we cancel the current policy with them but then start a new one at the cheaper price? Not sure what's best to do...never had this happen before!

Normally if you phone them they will check all the details are the same and then pricematch themselves.0

Yes.
But tell them you want the current policy to "lapse" on its expiry date. ("Cancel" sometimes leads over zealous agents to cancel the policy and charge cancellation fees)0 -

Quentin, but surely if you state that you wish to cancel the agreement on a specific date (i.e. on the date the Policy comes to end) then even the most idiotic agent will be able to understand this0 -
Phone the number on the renewal letter, give them the reference from confused.com and they'll match it.0

better not risk saying cancel when you dont want to cancel. Telling them you dont want to renew is correct and the safer way. The two things do have a different meaning. So, getting it right is better than hoping you dont get a call centre staff member who is on short term contract and only been there 5 minutes.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
