fund analysis tool

Options
Hi all

I am sure I have seen a free fund analysis tool where you enter your portfolio and it explains the breakdown / risks etc.

I can't seem to locate it anymore

I have been on the trustnet and morningstar websites but can't find it there. Any suggestions ?

Cheers

The Trustnet portfolio is the one I use. It will give you a breakdown by sector, region and type of fund. Also shows the top 10 holdings and has FE Risk Scores which lets you compare the volatility compared to the FTSE 100.

  • the trustnet analysis thing is quite good, unfortunately it list nearly 40% of my portfolio as 'other holdings' which isn't very useful...

The morningstar Xray analysis tool was very good, but it's now only available if you pay for their Premium service.

If you do find something then let us know. I'm in the same boat as the others - morningstar was great, but now not free. And Trustnet is a little limited.

Which means the fund manager hasnt published details of the assets on the fund. That should be of concern to you as how do you know the quality of the investment strategy and the quality of assets being used if nearly half are undisclosed? A small amount is ok but 40% is worrying.

The last fund I saw with a undisclosed amount that high was Arch Cru and that failed as the undisclosed assets were fairy dust and hope.

Trustnet's free portfolio tool shows only the top 10 items in it's categories, so anything outside that will be consolidated into 'others'. More likely to occur with several funds in a portfolio
Living for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.

Thanks. I was reading that as them not being disclosed. So, clearly not an issue. At least not in the investment sense. Still an issue for those looking at free data sources.

yes that's what I think is going on, which is slightly annoying.

I'm surprised there aren't other free alternatives given that all it does is take the assets of the fund(s) and weights the assets according to how much you hold
