Hi,
I had this problem last week, only happened once, as I changed my password soon after I found out, no problems since.
EDIT; have a look here.0 -

There is a quite a bit of this doing the rounds, not just hotmail either. Can't say where it originated, but usually happens when you receive an email from a friend, with a title such as "incredible photos" or similar.
You open it and apparently nothing happens. You just think that the sender forgot to add the attachment. However it loads malware which accesses you contacts list, and emails are forwarded to them with the same payload.
I have seen folks having their accounts blocked because of this, including Hotmail. I have also heard from my daughter-in-law that she only opened it on her Samsung Galaxy (android) phone (can't verify this but she was adamant) - so it means that malware is now getting onto phones/pads too?0 -
thank you frugalmacdugle i will give it a try ,most of my contacts are getting 3 emails a day from my email so anything is worth a try

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago.ok just to say thank you changing the password did the trick now it is all fine now

Can I just asdise that you change your password a couple of times and dont tick the box to keep you logged in while you are doing this so that you need to put your password in every time you go to check your mail, it sounds a bit of a faff but it gives a little bit extra security until you get settled again.
Also if possible, dont use your account to send anything for a while, set up another one with yahoo or google and use that to send stuff until you are 100% sure that the hotmail one is safe again.0 -
This happened with my Yahoo and I never even open suspicious mails let alone click on links in them. Checking my account activity it seemed someone had got into my mail via 'messenger authentication'. Though my messenger is always logged off - I never use it.
Your contacts may be used for a while even though you have changed your password.
I first realised it had happened when I got a mail bounced back to me. This is a nonsense mail I set up on purpose in my contacts.0 -
just change your password and things will stopthere or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0
