Anglian Windows - quality

HI
We have now had three quotes for UPVC sindows in a 1930's semi, and Anglian windows are over £1500 cheaper then the local tradesmen.
In our previous house the local tradesman did our conservatory - and was great and we may use him for an extention, so I was surprised by Anglian's quote.
Can anyone advise on Anglian quality and service???
Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen,
Anglian are good enough for quality and service.
I would get another quote tho because they aren't usually the cheapest."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
A friend had thir windows done by Anglian, they had the usual nonsense
quotation initially followed by a sensible one which they went with.
They are happy with the work and the final price which i have to say suprised me as i expected them to be expensive compared to smaller local firms and in this case they were cheaper.0 -
Thanks
They were suposed to give us a quote ages ago - but turned up late (after kinds in bed) so I din't let them in.
The guy rang to day and I told him he could come but that I would take his first price with no haggling.
He has quote £5,150 against 2 other quotes of over £6k aparently they have spare manufacturing capcaity at the moment.
DH is going to ring the local guy tonight to haggle as I would feel more confortable - but a £1.5k saving can't be sniffed at

There was a thread about 6 weeks ago on this. You might find it if you search.
We had Anglian windows throughout in 1987 and again in an extension in 1993 and they were and are first class. They still look almost new almost 20 years later.
A lot does depend on the fitters but, unless Anglian has gone downhill, I would recommend them.0 -
Hi Helen, my windows are through Anglian but I must warn you to ask them what the APR rate is - its expensive. They also charge an acceptance fee of £75. Also when the joiner came to fit them he sawed the wood for the surrounds in my livingroom without covering my wooden floor. He threw his saw and other tools down on the floor which badly scratched it. When I complained about this I was told that covering my floor would have been a safety hazard for the joiner, which is fair enough but he might have sawed the wood outside. The floor was also covered in mastik. I had a fight on my hands with them to get them to pay for the floor to be re-sanded and ended up having to go through Trading standards. They did eventually pay out after 3 months. The joiner fitted an easy clean hinge on one side of my bedroom window and a different one on the other side (they were both supposed to be easy clean hinges for the purpose of easy cleaning as my old windows were nearly impossible to clean) but I'm having to live with that as it didn't actually say that in the contract which I didn't notice before signing. The sales man told me that all the windows would be fitted with this type of hinge. There were a few other mis-haps but they were rectified without any hassle. Having said all that. the windows themselves are fine and when I phoned Anglian a couple of months ago to ask for a settlement figure as I was going for a loan with a lower APR, the man I spoke to kindly lowered the APR rate. Hope I havn't put you off but just make sure that what you want eg easy clean hinges etc are written on the contract before signing - after all it's your money. As the post above says - it depends on the fitters as well.0

I cannot believe they are the cheapest.
Usually "ANGLIAN" the most expensive.
Perhaps there is a deal on.
If you decide to go ahead make sure you get the best product 70mm profile, "K" glass, internal beading, shoot bolts and most of all GOOD experienced fitters, be there when they do it and boss them about. Do not pay up front and check the job thoroughly.Best of Luck, we have just used them and got a very good deal and job but they were not the least expensive.

Personally I would pay more for high quality windows, especially if you plan to stay in the house long term. As I posted above, our Anglian windows still look new almost 20 years later.0
