Avoid npower hometeam

I know people come to MSE to seek advice on products and services. I rarely post but felt compelled to make sure that I shared my thoughts on how terrible npower hometeam is. If you're considering this product and seduced by the cheap rates, I hope you're also come across the massive number of well founded complaints online which I want to add to.

Without going into too much detail, npower fail to keep appointments, send rude and unhelpful engineers to site, fail to keep suitable records of visits or conversations and don't seem to care too much about keeping you, the end customer, notified or updated with any progress or issues.

I thought that hometeam 50 was too good to be true. My first year was £150 which included a safety inspection plus any call outs. I'm now in my second year which has gone up in price and now the first time I've call on them for a repair I've been nothing but disappointed with every single interaction. It doesn't help that this is a particularly cold spell - so being without heating and hot water is particularly difficult.

I hope that this little review helps anyone who, like me a year ago, is thinking 'wow - what a great service'. Sadly, there's no 'wow', no 'great' and certainly no 'service'. Better to find another provider or a reliable local plumber/gas type.

If anyone can suggest really reliable boiler service products, I'd love to hear from you!

All of these "deals" (like all forms of insurance) are there solely to make money for a company and not to help you fix your boiler cheaply!

If I were you I'd therefore book a local independant engineer to service or repair your boiler when you need a service or repair and just stick the cash aside in the bank to be used as & when you need to reapir or replace.

Which found "that you're unlikely to save money if you take out a boiler servicing contract. This is because the average spent on a service is £75 and you're unlikely to need repairs."

You will be hard pushed to find an independent who doesn't also have exactly the same aims!

Absolutely, but as per the Which report servicing isn't likely to cost you £150 per year & you can get a repair estimate / choose to walk away and / or replace the boiler instead for anything else
