Help... clueless about new heating system.

Hey all,

I am sure this question gets asked a million times on here but i am stuck. I have tried to do my own research but it is such a complicated market that I am struggling to find where to begin.

So...

Me and my partner are looking to get a new heating system in our new house. From what we have found out ourselfs we have a few ideas in mind:

1. Combi boiler
2. New Radiators
3. New pipes (scottish power told us current pipes wouldn't cope with the pressure... something to do with gravity i think)
4. get rid of water tank in cupboard and loft

We got scottish power in to do a service and provide boiler cover and they said they couldnt as the boiler was too old. We live in a 2 bed semi... we would need 2 large radiators (living room, master) 2 medium radiators (kitchen, 2nd bedroom) and one small radiator for the hall.

really looking for some help with how to find a reputable company (already tried friends and family but not been much help) and an idea of price.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

You should check out the local plumbers merchants to price up the components. Take the room measurements (width, length and height) to get the correct rad sizes.
They should be able to price it up for you (retail price), then ask about trade discount, this will be useful if the plumber you choose will pass on his discount. There are other factors involved such as copper vs plastic pipes and fittings etc.
Try to avoid micro bore(8mm or 10mm) go for 15mm as this will flow better and warm the house quicker.
While you are at the plumbers merchant ask if they have any gas fitters that they recommend, and remember to get 2 or 3 quotes.
Rough guess you will be looking at £1-1.5k for kit depending on boiler make and spec. Fitting will cost what ever you local trades charge, that is why you need several quotes.
    Good hunting.
