I would suggest you read the policy terms and conditions very carefully and make sure that you comply with them to the letter. If something is cheap there is generally a very good reason.
You especially need to read the bit about security requirements, particularly the part about the locks because if there is a theft from your room and the locks don't meet the reqirements then the insurers won't pay.0 -

.....and in addition to Bouncy dogs advise, the small print may reveal that laptop not covered in room UNLESS forced entry or violence. Student will need to lock room EVERYTIME they leave it, so this could mean for every loo trip, visit to the kitchen or another students room! so yes please read the small print in fine detail.
Also have you checked that your current home contents insurance doesn't already cover them. Churchill covered both my offspring without paying any extra.0 -
Thanks guys, Yes ,i am aware of all the cop outs involved and as far as i can see with this one everything checks out. some insurance co will only insure if laptop is under 12 months old so that ruled out quite a few. this one doesnt.some will only accept if locks etc are to certain standards. this one doesnt. All i would say is if anyones in the market for getting their laptop covered OUTSIDE of Halls, or Rented homes, check it out. But like everything dont buy before you read fineprint. I think the 20% online discount swings it. Without that it would be pretty much inline with most of the others.0

Presumably you have carefully read the security requirements wording in the policy document - pge 3 - which is very specific on the lock requirements for external and internal doors and appears to relate to all premises?0
