Advice for mature nursing student who's son is soon also starting university

I am currently in my second year as a mature nursing student (and single parent) and up until now have been eligible to claim dependants allowance for my son through NHS bursaries. My son is due to start university himself this coming September and I am worrying about available finance in my final year. Will I still be able to claim dependants allowance for him as he will be living away, but I still have to continue maintaining the family home.

According to the 2010/11 and 2011/12 Dependants Allowance Application forms (cannot find one for 2012/13 yet) you cannot claim Dependants Allowance for children who are in higher education and eligible for student finance funding. If you have a child in higher education who is liable to apply for student support they will not be considered as dependants as they are entitled to funding in their own right.

Mrs Manda is right. However, don't stress too much. I know it can be stressful but, with student finance funding and loans, he will be okay.0
