Automated garage door

I need to replace my very old garage door. I am looking for a metal, up and over, automated double door and have no idea about the cost. Not sure if the frame also needs replacing as it does not look very strong. I phoned couple of companies and they quoted me over the phone around £2000 mark:eek:...any idea on what should i be paying and from where should i buy?...I live in Birmingham area

Hi, We had a door from rollerdor (google them) last year. Cost £600 and I fitted myself (very easy). This included new frame and remote units etc.

They do offer a fitting service if you don't want to do it yourself and I think the price was reasonable for that too.

    Cheers

i bought a 3 yr old door off ebay for 25 quid. looked like new.
fitted it myself in a few hours.

an electric door opener motor kit would have cost me about 100 quid. if i had fitted one.
    Get some gorm.

Sorry docmatt but there is no reply at ll from the phone from premier garage doors. After a bit of shopping I managed to get a quote for £1486 for a double stell sectional automated door. Obviously I have to add fitting to that. I believe I was given 35% discount because of a friend recommendation...what do people think? shall i go for it?
  • Hi, I have just ordered a new garage door, 8ft x 7ft, white georgian sectional door, from Garador I think, (Hormann Sectional) It is electric, includes 2 fobs and an additional one for opening door while in the house, Including fitting and white facings it was £1500 including VAT.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Hello sam1970

I know you're looking for a metal up and over double door but I thought my experience might be helpful.;)

I had an automated roller double garage door for around 15 years and decided to replace it. In June 2010 I paid £1,495 for a Europa Roller Door with 3 transmitters (the remote control clickers:D) and I'm very pleased with it.

What this door has (that the old door didn't have) is a separate winding mechanism, so that if the power fails I can still open or close the garage door. As my garage doesn't have a separate access door, if there is a power cut it makes opening the door easy.

It was fitted by the Garage Door & Gate Company:

After alot of sopping around, the best I managed to get is:

£1488 for a double, electric, metal sectional door +£375 for fitting =Total of £1863

Is this the best price you think I could get?
