HSBC cardguard claim

Hi all!

Thanks to this forum and we have claimed bank charges, credit card charges and PPI on a loan I had a few years ago......

However, I have realised that I have card guard on my HSBC visa and this has been taken out off my card since I took it out in 2002.
I vaguely remember being offered this when I signed up for the visa and was told that I more or less had to have it if I wanted the card.

I am going to try and claim this back but I do have a few questions which I am hoping you will be able to help me with.......
  • CAN I claim this back?
  • HOW do I go about this? is there any particular letter I use or is it a generic bank charge template letter?
  • WHO do I send the letter to if I can claim? HSBC offered me the product but the cover is provided by CPP??
Please can someone help me with this??!!

Thanks in advance folks

  • Hi Fred1,

I currently work in PPI claims for a company,

Yes you can claim this back. Providing you can get the right information and prove your case.

I would request as much information on the Credit Card as you can from the lender. if you have online statements I would obtain proof for as many payments you have made towards it as possible. ( agreements, payments etc. ) with the timescale you may struggle to obtain the agreement.

There are plenty of links dotted on this site and on google with templates for submiting the actual complaints to the lender in respecy to a refund of what you have paid

Send the complaint direct to HSBC themselves as they are who sold you the policy

    Hi ppi-advisor,

sorry if this sounds a little dumb but can you clarify - are you dealing with claims for the mis-selling of Card Guard policies which aren't payment protection as such but protection against lost and stolen cards etc.

My husband was paying high premiums for card guard protection for a number of years and we are looking into whether or not we can claim this back as it was not made clear that it was optional at the time he took out the credit card.

Any advice on whether this really is possible and how to go about it would be gratefully received, the templates I have found so far deal only with mis-sold PPI.

    Thanks for you time.

    Thank you Moneyineptitude,

Yes I know Card Guard isn't PPI hence my confusion over his response and my question about whether or not it was possible to challenge banks about the mis-selling of Card Guard products.

Thanks for your advice that he is unlikely to respond though.
