How far a walk was your caravan from the beach?
  • 2 adults, probably about 5-10 mins walking at normal speed. If I had 2 youngsters with me, I'd probably give myself 3 days to do the round trip!! ha

Whatever you do, don't ask to stay right near the entertaiment blocks. It's not so much the noise from the discos etc, it's people walking past late at night and forgetting that it's midnight etc ... talking at daytime level and all that. I'm sure with 2 young children you wouldn't want that much noise.

Also, try to stay away from any main roads, for the same reasons as above. Perhaps you'd be best asking for the plot just down from the crazy golf on the left. Half way between the blocks and the beach.

Recommend Paigton Zoo and Living Coasts - they aren't free I'm afraid but you can buy a joint ticket which saves a bit. They are both brilliant. Living Coasts you can get up close and personal with a pengiun!

A top tip would have been to hire a private van on the site but i guess that advice is too late now.
At most of the large Haven sites you can find private caravans that are much better equipped and cheaper than the equivalent Haven brochured caravans ( many have decking around them). You will know exactly where on the site the caravan is situated too. Just do a search on google for private hirers.

As with all Haven sites expect to have them try and wrench every penny out of you. Food is always very overpriced and generally poor.
If you are going in the school holidays, then expect to be in the club early to get a seat. Then have to sit through bingo ( more attempts at emtying your pocket) before any entertainment starts. If you don't get to see any of the acts then its hard to justify having paid so much for the caravan. There will be toy stalls, kids tattooists etc in the club to wrench more money out of you. You are fortunate that your kids are too young to be pestering for money all the time.

Butlins is generally better for young kids. The clubs have more space for buggys , there is more entertainment for kids and accomodation is better ( in my opinion caravans are always cramped even the gold ones)
