Hi, can my bank just close my account without explanation!

I have had a lloyds tsb account for a few years. Yesterday i used my card and was told it had been blocked. I phoned the bank they told me they had made a decision to close my account (without warning) and could and would not give me an explanation! I have just been paid and all of my money is in there. Next problem I am abroad and cannot use my card to get money out or pay for flight home as the only way to access my account is to visit my own branch! I have not been overdrawn, do not have a credit card or any loan! so why? and what can I do?

Yes, they certainly can.
You've probably been rightly or wrongly flagged as a fraudster0 -
If you really are stranded overseas with no money would you not be better going to the British Embassy rather than asking on here?
I must say that if in your situation, my first thought wouldn't be to register with MSE to ask that question... it would be to research how to get home!
Get a friend or family to wire you money and buy you a ticket home.:hello:0 -
ok thanks, so how do i rectify the situation then, they will not tell me or discuss the account. Obviously I have done nothing wrong and need this sorted as soon as possible. Do you know where I can find any links to help in my endevour0

Hi, natwest have just done the same to me, although I have been given 60 days notice, they will not give me an explanation other than its a "commercial decession". So in answer to your question, then yes they can. Lucky for me, I am not stranded in another country, I hope you get this sirted and get home promptly0

Fraud sounds about right. The company I work for is very good at tackling fraud and they're extremely strict at it too so it would make sense for a bank to act similarly. I had a card and account suspended once one a trip abroad, simply because I didnt notify the bank that the card would be used overseas, but managed to sort it after answering secutiry questions. Seems strange that they wont discuss it with you, I'd imagine them to go through security questions and such to help you rectify the situation. Nevertheless, good luck in getting yourself sorted.0

You haven't said how long you've been abroad or if you notified them you would be abroad?0
