I see that you can now enrol on this course:-
http://www.parking-net.com/Parking-News/parking-management-40904/Alpha-Parking-accredited-to-provide-new-management-qualifications
I wonder if it covers such things as civil contract and trespass law and the Consumer Credit Act? If it does, then all the PPC's should then be clued up and realise that they cannot demand unfair penalties off people, and they cannot bombard motorists with empty threats. We live in hope!

This coincides with Michael Gove's decision to get rid of useless qualifications in schools.0

These qualifications cover all the essential skills and knowledge of parking operations, leadership and management you will need, including:
Introduction to leadership
Understanding the management role
Developing and implementing policies and practices for the provision of parking services
Debt recovery
Developing and managing people in the workplace.
So nothing about civil law , but something about "debt recovery" even though there is no actual "debt" to recover from PPC tickets. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
The shocking thing for me with this is that it takes 2 years to qualify , what the hell takes that long to learn ? The job is thus
1) knuckle dragging
2) find victim
3) write fake ticket
4) put on windscreen
5) Go back to number 1
Now if that takes 2 years I despair of the educational system, it took me 2 years to get a HND and another year to get my degree.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
This qualification was brought in @ 2008, I think - along with a GCSE in being a Bouncer ("Door Security Management" or some similar title I believe) - at the time, I worked in a senior school exams office - but was on holiday when the announcement that these "subjects" had been created for examination purposes. Driving across Dartmoor with the radio on, I nearly crashed my car into a rock because I was laughing so much.
Not to denigrate those who are legitimately employed in these industries for worthy purposes - for there are times when a council's legitimately-employed clampers/wardens need to clamp and fine or tow the car belonging to a driver who has impeded essential emergency or disability-related vehicle access, or an entertainment venue's security staff have no alternative but to evict or take proactive steps against someone posing a genuine threat to the lives or well-being of other innocent patrons - but surely these situations depend on a wide variety of ever-developing circumstances and the common-sense and judgement of the individuals when confronted by these situations?! How can anyone study, examine or moderate such wide-ranging issues?!
Common-sense, to my mind, is a bit like acting or public speaking. Either you can do it naturally or you can't - and, if you can't, then no amount of lessons will help. The only difference being upbringing. A child with a love of playing "let's pretend" will, with the right encouragement, affection and engagement, grow in confidence and life-skills to become a good speaker or actor. Similarly, a child ignored and viewed as nothing but a minor inconvenience to someone else's life will grow to find friends in equally-troubled souls and/or fictional "friends" found in TV programmes - and that poor s*d stands very little chance of developing much basic common-sense and human morality.
It's at the developmental stage and in their home-lives that kids need to
be encouraged, supported and nurtured. NOT when it's too late and some codpiece of an educational consultant thinks that everything in a young person's life will suddenly be remedied by giving them a trumped-up b*ll*cks "qualification".
That's just what I think, anyway.
Blimey, that was a bit of a rant.
:o
Sorry - not sure what got into me there...!

IMO it's a load of tripe.
I've an NVQ2 in parking and along with some colleagues who also did it at the time I found it a doddle. The rest of them would spend days inside doing 'coursework', having it reviewed by supervisors etc.. making it out to be a big thing.
I started mine 3 weeks late (due to a spat with a supervisor so I played difficult as they were a trainee assessor and needed my coursework
) and I still finished first out of my group of 4.
It landed me another parking job pretty easily but they were scum, working for some !!!! from the army who had a vendetta against the world and didn't like anyone smarter than him. They also ended up screwing me over for pay too so I walked.
In all, parking qualifications are pointless. It is not a career, it isn't going to make anyone happy, it's stressful and emotive and frankly an industry built around power hungry army rejects and ex police sargeants who took early retirement but miss the power. You also can't move around in the world of parking very much and if you want to get out.. good luck!
Imagine how much use a parking management qualification will be to a PPC who don't even have a 'debt' to enforce. Absolutely pointless. Sadly though, british governments since the John Major era seem to have lost the plot of decency and now seem to prefer anything which rips off the population and makes a fast profit.0 -
It would be interesting to know if the Equality Act - as far as it relates to reasonable adjustments for service-users - is even mentioned in this daft subject specification.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
