Absolutely worst insurance quotes

Just ran Sheila (my 1969 1300FWD) through comparethemeerkat out of interest and thought you guys might like the quote spread. This is for comprehensive cover for a 44 year old using zero no-claims on 10000 miles SDP (no commuting) per year and a £500 valuation:
"KwikFit" £198.97 Deposit: £29.85 Instalments:(11 x £20.87) Total: £259.42
"One Quote" £18,753.04 Deposit: £3770.61 Instalments:(10 x £1717.78) Total: £20948.41
To be fair to One Quote, their compulsory excess is only £50 instead of £100 and their legal protection (not included) is a tenner cheaper    Of course, if I take either I do get a cute cuddly meerkat toy but - and here's the secret expert money saving tip - I think I'll give that a miss and accept the £90 or so I've been quoted on a classics policy
So, anyone else come up with some really silly quote prices when shopping around?

AFIAK all the insurance comparison sites are owned by insurance companies, the cheapest quotes are almost always the same company OR one of their sister companies.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I've got a perfectly reasonable quote (£94 fully comp) from Lancaster, who our other cars are with, and was quite surprised to see that they now show up on at least one of the comparison sites now with the same price. To be honest, I dodn't think the Kwik Fit price was too bad for a mainstream company who'll just be treating it as "A.N.Other car".
But you can't help thinking that a company who quotes 18 grand would be better off just saying "no thanks"!0 -
Silly quotes are irrelevant. All they're trying to do is NOT get your business. They don't want your business so they give you a stupid quote, lots of businesses do it (raher than not quoting at all). The numbers are not a true reflection of what they think it will cost to insure you, it just means you don't fit their target risk profile and so they don't want to insure you. Whether they quote £15,000 or £1m, it means the same thing and the size of the number is irrelevant.0
