Worried about getting a repeat bill

I have been with Scottish Power for a number of years and they used to send a meter reader out each quarter, but lately sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. Anyway, last week I noticed that the next bill was due and so I called them with my meter readings just incase a meter reader didn't come. The bill came yesterday based on my readings and I went down to the PO and paid it. Then this morning a meter reader came and I told him that I had phoned in my readings and had had the bill and paid it. He did the readings anyway, and I phoned Scottish Power and they said that I 'shouldn't' get another bill, but I am worried incase they send me the same bill again and expect me to pay it a second time. My friend said that maybe they wanted to be sure my readings were accurate as I use little power (I can't afford to) and I wouldn't mind if it is just this, as my readings were good, but I am worried about having to pay the original bill a second time. I'm sorry to sound so worried, but I am generally a person who panics. I have my receipt and everything from the PO.

  • Hi,

I wouldn't worry about it, it may be that the meter reader was in the area anyway for the normal meter readings, though maybe a few days later than he should've been with Christmas, New Year holidays.

I would think that if you do get a new bill it will be for the extra days from the bill you have already paid.
