Overpayments

Can anyone answer a couple of questions I have on overpayments on Tax Credits?

Am I right that overpayments for a current period will be deducted from future payments?

Overpayments from a previous period have to be repaid and the correct circumstances cannot be taken into account?

Thanks in advance.

I think it all depends on how much the overpayment is for? They decide based on your current circumstances etc I think.

Well overpayments for current year 11-12 I'm assuming will get deducted when it is calculated correctly?

The second question is overpayments for the previous two years that they want back and as far as I know they are not taking into account the correct circumstances. Is it possible to get the overpayments for these two years reduced with the right information?

Yes they will be amended once they receive your year end figures for 2011/2012. The tax credit page on the mse main site has good guides on circumstance changes and overpayments etc http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/tax-credit-child-working-overpaymen If you did tell them about the change and they didn't amend it then you might not owe them, but if you just renewed and didn't tell them on your renewal forms etc, then you usually will have to pay. You can appeal their decision though.
