Unemployment Insurance

Lost my job last April but fortunately have the mortgage, loan & credit card protected with individual insurance companies. I've done alot of temp work in that period and the mortgage & loan policies have been excellent (Paymentshield & Adminincle).
The credit card policy is a different matter. I won't name them, but the policy comes from the credit card providers themselves though obviously underwritten elsewhere.
Here's my gripe: I worked a temp job until Oct 20 2006. When it finished I immediatley wrote to them just to 'get the ball rolling'. After a month of signing on I sent them an ABI1 form, which they received on Dec 1st.
It gets a little complicated from there as I'm getting different stories each time I ring them, but the jist is this: my claim was closed and archived in July (I had a claim from May to July then did 3 months of temp work). I sent them an ABI1 form which they received on 1st Dec. I've since contacted them many times to find out when they will be paying and keep getting told "within a few days". Today I was told that my claim had been archived last July, and a request had been made for it to be de-archived on 6th Feb, if they don't receive it back the 16th (they use an outside source for archiving) then they will chase it up. So why has it taken them 2 months to request the de-archive, considering they received my ABI1 form on 1st Dec? I've asked but can't get an answer. The fact that, apart from 3 weeks, I've been out of work since Oct 20 and have had to pay the credit card bill myself each week doesn't seem to concern them, they've said archives come back when there is a big enough batch needed (keeps costs down) and they won't ask for individual claims to be de-archived. So each month I pay the minimum amount to the credit card, and because of this they charge me maximum interest. Yet the insurance policy SHOULD be paying this, meaning I wouldn't get charged maximum interest.
I can't help but notice that it's in the interests of the credit card company to keep my claim archived for as long as possible because it means they can charge me maximum interest each month. I'm paying extra because of THEIR balls up yet they show no urgency to help whatsoever.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Like I said, getting different versions from Egg, here's another.

Despite phoning my temp employer to confirm that I'd been working on the dates that I said, the insurance co insist on getting it in writing. Unfortunately, the person who booked me to do the work is the top cheese, never has a spare moment, and hasn't returned the form. Now, I know all this to be true, and at the start of January I gave the insurance co details of my employers payroll (different office) after the insurance co wrote telling me they would cancel my claim in 10 days if they still received no reply.
So here's what happened: they contacted payroll, payroll told them I'd had a payroll account from 30th May to Oct 20th, and gave details of my rate plus how much I was paid, this way the insurance co could work out for themselves how many weeks I'd worked there (apparantly this is how the payroll always do it and never have any problems). They're payroll takes no account of the time spent NOT working there. I'd worked 30th May-2nd June, then 10 July-20th Oct, payroll sees it as 30th May-20th Oct, which is why they supply a breakdown a rate & earnings.
Insurance company have noticed a discrepancy from 8 months ago and jumped at the chance to suspend any payments. This is why the claim has to be de-archived. So that's the 2 reasons that I've been given for the claim having to be de-archived, either way it's a balls up by the insurance co but I'm the one paying THEM maximum interest:mad:
