Hello all
I'm really sorry if this has been covered a million times before but I did a search and couldn't see anything specific to what I've done.
I went for a meal at a hotel a few weeks back and when we got there the car park was pay and display. My girlfriend went into the hotel to get change for the parking meter and was told by the receptionist it's fine just give your registration in at the restaurant. My girlfriend even said but there's signs all over the place saying to pay and display to which the receptionist kind of laughed (politely) and said honestly its fine. So thats what we did - parked up, didn't pay and had our meal.
Yesterday I received a PCN from Parking Eye saying I hadn't paid and displayed and I owe them £60! I contacted the hotel and was told again don't worry just send them the receipt for the meal and they would sort it. Now the problem is as i explained to the hotel - I left the receipt on the saucer with the tip when I left thinking nothing of it, but I did pay the bill with gift vouchers which have my name on them so I would have thought should be traceable. I was told to email these details to the hotel, which i have but what worries me is that it is a pay and display and we didn't pay and display as we were advised not to by the hotel themselves. Should I still just go down the ignore route with this one?
Again sincere apologies if this has been covered but I'm not really much of a forum person normally and tried a search but couldn't see anything.

You owe parking eye or car park owner the pay and display fee.
Find out what it should have been and send stamps + £2.50 DVLA fee in stamps again to the value by recorded delivery to the postal payment address.
Send them with a photocopy of the invoice they sent you so they know where to send them back to.
Do not put any details or names or addresses on.
Hopefully they will reject them and that is the end of any legal claim they have gone.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
You don't have to prove anything to Parking Eye at all. You are not obliged to send them your receipt either. They are a private company with no authority to ask you for this information at all.
The receptionist had the right idea. Laugh at them.0 -
Similar thing has happened to me. IGNORE totally. Nothing bad will happen apart form maybe a threatning letter or two, and again IGNORE them0

Brilliant thanks for your advice everyone. Just to clarify it was the chap at the hotel that asked for my receipt, not PE.0

We know - it's because that chap at the hotel seems to be under the mistaken impression that the 'parking management' is real and that he needs some sort of evidence to call them off.
He's taking them too seriously. But you could ask him to dig out the receipt himself if you want or just let it go and ignore the threatograms. Nothing will happen.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

If you had to Pay & Display a ticket where the money would be refunded when you spent money in the hotel, than the loss would be zero.
I hope that hotel has now lost your business and you have told others to avoid it.0
