Swapping suppliers is costing me £50

Hi
Can anyone help with this matter. I switched frome eon to edf and within the cooling off period the win back team from eon called and gave me a better deal. I said I would stay with them but what about edf, would I get charges or anything for cancelling and what should I do. The win back agent from eon said I don't need to do anything they would sort it. I now have a bill for £50 for early cancellation fee from edf. I wouldnt have changed back to eon if I had known I would have to pay a fee. I feel as if I was misinformed by the eon agent. I have contacted eon but they say they are not responsible for what edf charges. I spoke to a senior eon agent who said he would put in a complaint but because it was out of the cooling off period when it was switched they may not be able to do anything. I thought it was within the cooling off period when I agreed to stay with eon. Edf just state they have notice of the early cancellation fee in the small print.

But did YOU contact EDF to cancel the switch, If so then you have grounds for complaint and the £50 back.

However I suspect you left it to the EoN rep, which is now why you owe £50.
  • Also the Eon deal will be dearer than EDF tariff

Your contract, your responsibility to inform them if you wish to cancel within the cooling off period.

Sorry, but a £50 charge is perhaps the least of your worries.

What concerns me is the apparent lack of understanding of what your bills will be. You presumably switched from Eon To EDF to save money, so why didn't you see the even cheaper eon tariff then???
If you had switched immediately, you could have saved over 8 weeks worth of wasted money, if indeed eon do have a cheaper tariff.
(transfer of tariff within the same supplier is immediate; switching supplier takes a minimum of 4 weeks, and more typically longer, so 2x switches = min 8 weeks )

Please post your details* here so that advice can be given on the best tariff for you.

    Details required:
    1. Your annual consumption in kWh for electricity (plus % split if E7) and gas (if applicable)

    2. Your supply region, or first part of your postcode

    3. The original Eon tariff (name) you were on.

    4. The EDF tariff you moved to

    5. The Eon tariff you are now on.

  • never be fooled by online reps/chat, offering/giving you this or that, ALWAYS get it in writing if you can that way you have proof, and allows do the important things yourself, like canceling anything etc, that is down to you to do to make sure its done properly,
all the rep does is get his/her commision and thats the end of it

    Hi Angela

I’m sorry that you feel you were misinformed when you agreed to stay with us. I understand that you would have acted differently had you known you’d have to pay a £50.00 fee to EDF.

We don’t cover cancellation fees as a general rule and I share your concerns that this wasn’t made clear when we called you.

It may be too late to cancel your switch back to us but we can investigate what you were told. If your complaint is upheld then we can arrange for you to return to EDF without any charges from E.ON or at least make sure that we honour what our representative said.

Now, this may be what the senior agent was referring to when they said they’d raise a complaint, Are they due to contact you again soon? If you need me to chase anything up for you just drop me a quick email with your account details and I’ll see what’s going on.

    Amanda :)

  • why is it too difficult to understand prices and contracts ?

do these companies deliberately do so ?

if so what are these so called regulators doing ?
