Dealings With Payday Loans Diary

  • Hi Super Daz

You've already done the first correct thing in opening a new bank account - your back in the driving seat if they can't access your account

You might be best finding out who will freeze account (some will) and work on those adding charges as the first to get paid up, tips are don't get disheartned and be persistant - remember payments (even token ones) cannot be refused - I'm not sure about paying a figure similiar to the existing roll on fee just in case they try and deem your rolling over again??

As someone who has also been there, look forward to more diary entries and seeing you get through this : )
  • Thanks again to everyone who's responded. In response to a couple of points I'm going to complete a SOA & send it to each company.

If I set up a standing order from my new bank to pay some of these, can they see my new account number etc? Is there any danger of them being able to raid my new account?

Goodman I can assure you I dont work for a Payday loan company, I never have, and never would. I've come to realise that every payday loan company is an evil money grabbing leech - some of these I have been rolling over for 6 months or so - you can see how much I've wasted on these sharks. On most I have paid the original loan back many times over & still they want the fillings out of my teeth. The small amount of money I had put in my old account that went the second it was there gave me the impression that these companies are like a pack of wolves fighting over a scrap of meat in my account.

I would like to see much tougher regulation of these so called companies & a limit on how much they can charge. If it was up to me I'd also then make them pay back all the extra that people have had to pay on past loans (kinda like PPI claims).
  • Calls & texts have started again this morning - mainly from 1 Month Loan. I'm going to send them some money today to hopefully keep them off my back a bit - I need to know though if they can see my account details if I send them money using fast payments from my bank or a standing order.
  • I believe they can - this is kind of how Cash Genie got me :( I would send them postal orders or ask for their bank details so you can put cash in their account.

  • Does anyone have any idea how to pay these jokers if they refuse to give their bank details etc? I'm reluctant to send postal orders as I can see them claiming they never arrived.

Try telling them you no longer have a debit card, or an account that will accept direct debit...

I think they could only see your details from a standing order if you sent them back the standing order form for them to set up??
  • Just had a look at the small print for 1 month loans to see if their account number is lurking there and it doenst seem to be. Interestingly enough they claim to be 'responsible lenders' and say they only lend an amount that they believe you can comfortable afford. I would be interested to know how Wonga think someone can pay back more than they actually earn in a month....... tempted to write to the ombudsman and see what they say.

Think I know where your coming from Cottonhead, and know I shouldn't say it but I've lost faith somewhat in the help system some way back!

Daz - you may already know this ... but there is another forum (Consumer Action Group) where a lot of the PDL's bank details can get posted mainly by ex. users like myself where we can!

Go have a look you may be in luck for Cash Genie and a couple others ; )

Payday Express - worse case you can pay cash into your nearest Money Shop, some of the smaller ones you may find you might be able to pay with paypal

    How you getting on? x

Good god - I have 2 pay day loans and think that is excessive!

Hope you get everything sorted. I cleared my Wonga loan (£940) early, and now i just have to pay QQ (£300) next month and thats my lot.

I understand that payday loans can be beneficial, but once you get into that vicious loop of taking one out every month it can become very worrying. My worry was that Wonga would refuse a loan one month and that would completely screw me up. Thankfully (maybe thats not the best word) they didn't, but I i'm glad i'm just about out of this mess.
  • Hi folks - still plodding on & still getting calls, texts & emails though not so many now I have sorted out payment plans with a few. Minicredit is the biggest problem one now & the only one really giving me serious grief.
Keepcalm - I didnt know about the other forum - thanks for that I'll have a look for it now.

Cottonhead you got me thinking - maybe a bunch of us who have been affected by payday loans ought to group together & pass on our negative experience with these companys to the ombudsman - if enough of us make enough noise maybe they will have to listen.
