SLC Deferment: Supporting documents - rant!

Options
 I sent off all my supporting documents as usual to SLC for deferment, which they returned to me saying they had taken note of these .... only to then be phoned up to tell me they were still awaiting my supporting documents!!?!! A tad annoying since I was up country dealing with a sick relative at the time and therefore couldnt get access to the docs in time to stop them to debit the first month's payment from my account... :(

To me this is blatant incompetence! I sent in everything well before the deadline - how can they now say that they never received anything??

Has this happened to anyone before? Is it worth complaining? I'm a single mum on benefits and this happened at a really tough time.

Worth a letter and ask for the deferment to be backdated and a refund for the payment that has been taken. If you feel it warrants a complaint then certainly submit one. It may be SLC have scanned them but the documents have yet to be uploaded and the other person was just working off an old report.
