Keep getting bounced back on Credit cards

I KEEP GETTING REFUSED ON CREDIT CARDS FOR BALANCE TRANSFER

I barely use my credit card as I'm trying to pay it off and all I want to do with it is transfer the balance.

I have a fairly good credit rating.

I pay my bills on time and never default.

I have several loans, none which I've ever defaulted on.

I own my own home (Well, albeit on a mortgage).

I am on the Electoral role and have been for years at this address.

I have a fairly high income by today's standards and it's paid into a bank.

BUT..............

I have a "strange" address.

Everyone sees it different.

Sometime when I'm buying online its seen as:

25 G******* *****
2 B****** **** ****

or
FLAT 25 G******* *****
B****** **** ****

or any other possibly combinations you can think of, even when asked to enter post code for house search.... it always comes up different.

The thing is, a few years ago I was knocked back on a premier account from Santander and was given no reason for it and it wasn't until I went into the branch after I was knocked back for a second time that they told me that my problem is due to my address differing from what they have on their records. As son as they move the numbers around on my address, I was instantly accepted.

I think when I do apply for cards, they go through to Experian and see that something doesn't quite match and hence I get knocked back again.

WHAT ON EARTH CAN I DO???????

I have a similar problem. My local authority says my address is registered correctly but when I phoned two seperate companies to get broadband they both say my house doesn't exist and that I'd have to have an engineer around and be charged an extortionate amount. When I get post the first line of my address is often mixed up and I'm actually convinced I just don't get some of my post at all.

I'm not sure what you can do except for hassling your local authority (council) to clarify your address properly.

Could possibly be your address thats an issue. But it could be other things as well.

You say you have several loans. You also have a credit card. Do you have an overdraft?

How much does all your unsecured credit add up to? how does that compare to your income? Could you be struggling because they are concerned about the affordability.

If you do have other credit cards - do you pay the minimum each month? or more?

If you have an overdraft - do you use it every month?

You say you keep getting refused - have you made a lot of applications recently? again that can cause issues.

With regards to the address - do you know how your address appears with experian, equifax and callcredit? Is it the same with all? is this the format of the address you use when you are applying for cards?

  • On the address side, I have a similar problem. Council change dteh postcodes in our area and after living here for 10 years, I no longer exist on these automated address checkers.
After having that come up a couple of times, and getting refused a mobile contract because of teh address thing, I wrote to Experian and Equifax and asked for a note to be added that said both addresses and postcodes were teh same place.
    Never had a problem since.

There's a chance the address variations are an issue. I suggest you contact us and ask us to help make sure the addresses registered on all of your records are consistent and match the Postcode Address File (Royal Mail). That includes the electoral roll. Variations can cause issues such as an incomplete report, depending on what version of your address any prospective lender puts into their enquiry. We are currently working on a new address-matching solution which should make these problems a thing of the past. But we can usually help if you get in touch.

  • Ironically, the bank I bank with (Santander) which I have my current account, daily account, 2 loans and now a credit card, deem me unworthy to have a credit card with any more than a £500 limit as they think me a high risk.... Why? because they got my address wrong. They promised me a call with their complaints dept on Friday between 11am & 1pm.... Saturday 10 am when they called they told me that they have so many variations of my address that they didn't know where to send my mail to, I told them "Picking a random address because it looks similar to mine isn't really cutting the mustard". In fact, they sent my credit card and pin to a completely different address, albeit similar to mine. Thank goodness for our local posty, who knows my name and had the sense to deliver the mail to the correct address.
When questioned about the credit limit of £500 I was told that I would have to have..... Now wait for it, THIS BALANCE TRANSFER CARD FOR 6 MONTHS before they'd even consider raising the credit limit, as they wanted to see "activity" on the account. Of course I pointed out to them that the sole reason for getting the card in the first place was to do a balance transfer to pay off Virgin credits extortionate interest charges and that if they didn't allow me to transfer the money, it would negate the reason for getting the card in the first place. It's like being given a brand new Ferrari that's all yours, but the only proviso is that you're not allowed to put petrol in it. Of course I told this to their laughably title complaints department and ask them what I should do.... "I've no idea" was the reply. So who has an idea then?" i asked, "I have no idea" was the reply.

It's like hitting your head against a brick wall.... NO, my mistake, hitting your head against a brick wall would achieve something, talking to these people does not.
