Urgent help needed for packard bell easynote b3605

I hope someone can help me
I have an old packard bell - easynote b3605.
The problem is that it has been stored in a plastic box from November 2011 and now won't even power on.
I wouldn't mind so much but it has all my tax return codes stored on it and I don't have time to request new ones
When I put the power cable in the light for battery charging lights up but when I try to turn it on the light beside it flashes once or twice then nothing. The symbol above this light looks like a circle with a dot in it and canister symbol.
I have took the hard drive and the ram out, gave the inside a clean out and replaced the above but it still won't power on. The only other thing I can think of is a power supply problem but don't know how to go about fixing it.
I hope someone can help thank you

PS I'm in Belfast if someone could even recomend some where to take it who could look at it and sort it out today.
TIA

  • have you tried:

unplug power, remove battery, hold power button for 20 seconds. Plug all back in.

Good sugestion - unlikely to be a power problem (never say never with puters), as you have a power light. Try booting with battery removed as well. Otherwise sounds pretty terminal. Your local PC shop should be able to recover yr personal files from the hdd drive, or you might be able to do so yourself (assuming you have another pc/lappie), remove hdd, buy a USB caddy and plug into another pc. Get the right type of caddy though pata (also known as IDE) or sata.

  • Thanks robmar0se, I've tried without the battery but still not working. I'll look to see if I can buy one locally.

Have found that currys and maplin both have the sata one instock and currys do the pata one, not sure which I need but am off to buy one. Thank you so much.

  • a big thanks to robmar0se, got an enclosure for my lappies HDD and managed to do my tax return.
Bought one from Currys that done both pata and sata because I wasn't sure which one I needed and had forgotten to take the HDD with me, d'oh!
