Our young dog started behaving differently a couple of weeks ago and I asked a similar question on Champdogs. He wanted to be out all the time, along with other behaviour changes.

It seemed the general consensus that my little dog was possibly scenting a local dog on heat, or possibly foxes.

He's back to normal now though, currently being chased round the living room by my OH, wondering who'll tire out first.

OMG libra...you're a genius! This afternoon I discovered there's a cute little b1tch up the road in season and the owner's keeping her in the back garden rather than taking her out for a walk while she's in season.

While I was speaking to the owner I had Jack with me and he was an absolute maniac, leaping up, yelping, panting. So looks like that's what's bothering him!

Glad that helped - Barney went crazy for a few days, just stood outside, howling occasionally.

It was spooky but only lasted several days. He's back to normal now, thank goodness.

No it's about twice a year assuming they don't Spay her in 3 months time, they may have been waiting for her first season or for her to mature, has Jack been castrated?

No he hasn't. I've never seen any reason to have it done as he's a timid little guy with no aggression...but if he's going to carry on like this every time he scents a female his bits are definitely at risk!
