Most standard hotel bookings are cancellable right up till the date of arrival with no charge (they sometimes have cheaper bargain deals which aren't cancellable, but they tend to make this crystal clear on the booking sites).

Flights which are cancellable tend to be very expensive, so like the others I'd suggest somewhere in the UK.

Kate, sorry to hear about your dad, and lovely that he plans to walk you down the aisle. I think other posters give good advice, If you can find somewhere you like in the UK (driveable), and make it a plan that you will have a holiday somewhere more exotic or do a "last minute" they day before the wedding then that might suit. My father in law died a couple of hours after we arrived on holiday as a family of six in Disneyland Paris. OH flew home to help sort arrangements and I stayed on with the 4 kids, funeral was after we all got home. At the time we were grateful for a couple of things a) there's about 10 flights a day from paris, and actually the price for "buying another flight" was far less than if we had tried to insure against things, and b)we did have completely cancellable hotel rooms *but for the whole booking*. The price for booking per night was no different to the price for booking for the week. If i was in any doubt, booking 7x1 night rather than 1x7 night can help - that way you can cancel night 3-7. Hotels want to put you in the same room all week anyway once you arrive. The other thing I would say is we did not have internet access, and some carriers (like easyjet) have little phone booking capability,as a result of various phone calls, a colleague of my sister (who does not know us at all, and bless him) ended up putting the flight on his credit card. Our situation was quite different to yours, but getting some flexibility about your travel/having internet access proved useful to us. I wish you every happiness. sal xxx
