We are on NPowers dual fuel standard tarrif and we have just hit our first year with them so hopefully can work out better deals from a years consumption.

Just want someone who has a clue on gas/elec charges to look over our figures and give some advise please and answer one question if you can :D

Q: Npower gives us a £100 discount for duel fuel do we get this at the end of the year i.e now or is it broken up over the twelve months?

Figures

NPower standard tarrif

Electric Actual Reads: 15.540 (20/01/11) 21.619 (01/01/12)
Total for year 6079

Gas Actual Reads: 6680(09/02/11) 7347 (01/01/12)
Total for year (667)

We have paid £1,193.00 via direct debit between the above dates.

Any advise is appreciated ;)

  • Well first question first, the annual bonus is credited to the next bill after 12 monthly DD's have been taken.

Now to usage, I am assuming the £1193 covered the annual bill without too much credit/debit?? If that is the case then it works out you have a metric meter, correct?, gas units are converted to kwh to bill you.

So your electric is very high and you gas quite low, I hope you heat your house by gas but I suspect not. What do you use your electric for, especially things that create heat, like fires, immersion heater, tumble drier.

The £100 discount from n'power is credited in arrears after you have paid Direct Debits for 12 consecutive months, ( If you change supplier before making the 12, you will lose the discount).

You will need to know your annual Gas/Elec consumptions in Kwh to visit a Switch site to look for better deals. The Elec is easy as 1 meter unit is a Kwh, but Gas meter units have to be converted to Kwh - Look at your bills - If in doubt ask n'power.

Your 667 Gas meter units converts to appx. 7470Kwh which is in line with your bills, so if you want to have a test play with a Switch site, enter 6079Kwh as your Annual Elec consumption and 7470 as the Gas

There may be good reasons for it, but your Gas use is quite low whilst your Elec use is massive, perhaps you could post the set-up in your household

That amount is how much we've paid to date, not too sure if it cover's the next bill or not as we had to increase our direct debit to £170 in September to increase our credit amount? Think the final bill is due in a few weeks that will close the year out. No idea if we have a metric meter

The house /water is heated by a Gas boiler (raditors, gas fire (not used), but we control the amount its on quite alot hence why its so low.

We tend to not control the electric to well which is something were gonna work on this year i.e. not leaving things on stand by, using the dryer alot less.

Your meter is marked either 100's cu ft, or cu m.
You can't check the calculations without knowing the kWh figure, so please advise.
If it is metric, then something is amiss-a house with gas CH and DHW should have a gas bill at least twice as high as yours-and an electricity bill of about half yours.
So you need to confirm how you heat and hot water the house. What your toaster uses is not relevant-the vast majority of your energy usage s hot water and heating.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Finally managed to look at the meter and the only markings I can see is Ft3. So I'm guessing cu ft?

Full year of figures now too:

    Total for year 6280

    Gas Actual Reads: 6680(09/02/11) 7405 (18/02/12)
    Total for year (725)

    ft3 = cubic feet
The printed red '0' and the other red number are tens and units of cubic feet - the 7405 is 7405 hundred cubic feet.

You have an imperial meter, op blank out your meters serial number as people with xoserve can search your address
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
