Credit Rating Shock

in Credit cards
HI there, this is my first posting, Hope i get it right!
I have been checking my experian credit rating roughly once a year and it has never led to any suprises, too much credit but never any defaults or CCJs etc.
However, I checked it yesterday and Found out that I have a defaulted credit account, centred on an address I rented in for 6 months. It was for a credit/store card for 195£. The account was suposed to have been started in 2005 and reviewed in 2008 which is when it was marked as defaulted and closed. The credit organisation is LINK FINANACIAL (MB...) thats all it says! I dont recognise anything about this credit account and would never let any debt go. There is therefore a concern that there may have been an element of identity theft here!
i would be keen to expunge this from my credit report, however as it says that the credit agreement has ended, is there still anything I can do? I am aware that these things stay on your credit report for 6 years which starts I presume from 2008.
Any advice most appreciated!
Joe

write to the dca link financial and ask themDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

The credit report states that i have defaulted on 195£ but Link has marked it as satisfactory meaning I think they are not pursuing it. Could I make tings better by contacting them?
Also, I genuinely do not know who the original creditor is, iof it is credit theft, how do I sort that one out?
Most crucially, my overall experian score on the basis of this default is fair (777): will it have implications for me when getting a mortgage?
Thanks

write and dispute that youve ever had this account.
if youve never had the account then recording the default against your file would be a breach of dpa. could be id fraud. could be a mistake these things happen. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/moneybox/8098674.stm0 -
Thanks, that is very interesting!

First of all ignore the score. Worthless information.
The default will affect your mortgage application, yes. Your "Profile Information" section of credit expert will list a contact address for this creditor.
Write to them explaining the situation, provide them with 30 days to remove the false and defamatory data. Remind them that if they don't you will have the ICO investigate their breach of Data Protection and may take actiion against for such.
ALso raise a notice of dispute with Experian, Equifax, and Call Credit against the data. Yes, you need to do this separately with all three credit reference agencies.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
