Made a FASTER PAYMENT with Halifax to HMRC

.. and basically it said it went through. Then I check my statement and it says HMRC National In (a random string of 18 letters) then the amount in the outgoing section.
Problem is, the number bears no relation to the reference I input when making the payment. I'm worrying I've paid someone else's NIC bill now. But when I look on my Payments section all the information is correct. It's odd.
Is this number on the statement unrelated, cos other payments have shown what ive typed in the reference quite clearly.

I send FP all the time to my other accounts to keep them 'in credit'
they always give me a string of letters/numbers on the statement.
don't worry about it.• HSBC (Main A/C)

Thanks for the reply.
I panic because the string of 18 numbers on the statement page was different to the 18-digit reference I put in when paying the bill. Other faster payments I've made always correctly stated the reference I entered.

For some reason, Halifax always seem to truncate what you enter and append a pile of crap onto the end of it.0

Halifax statements have got a great deal worse in terms of useful information/junk since the move to the Lloyds platform last September.
