Dodgy Landlords & Deposit Protection
Comments
-
We move out in 2 weeks!
I have now checked all 3 schemes and our deposit is not protected, also I gave the LL a chance to provide details although I was 99% sure at the time the deposit had ended up in her pocket. I have to be honest and say my own ignorance has to play a part in this, I asked someone to protect our deposit and took them at their word when they said they would thinking that because I had a receipt of payment all would be fine. Something I have learned is that the whole deposit protection law does not really deter LL's if they don't want to play by the rules. I was speaking to a colleague at work who's deposit is not protected and their LL is from a well known local family of entrepreneurs who has a large portfolio of properties. I think this seems to be, as in all walks of life, a few bad ones giving the majority a bad name.
Will take Yorkie1's advice, nice simple letter, proof of posting and hope for the best.
Thanks all0
