As for boxes, what about asking your local bakery for cake boxes free or cheap?

Will be doing a party boxes for my 7 year daughter's birthday in 3 weeks time, I intend to do a cheese or ham filled roll, a mini sausage roll (making them myself) a frube, a packet of crisps and a mini snack bag of either cadburys animals, party rings or mini moo biscuits then a pouch of apple or orange juice. I'm actually worried that this may not be enough, we will be outside all day at a bird of prey centre so will be burning up lots of calories exploring and keeping warm! Fully expect to be doling out more biscuits or crisps over the course of the day. Am hoping the weather warms up a bit, have been there today and it was bitterly cold... the cost of multiple hot chocolates over the course of the day to thaw them out doesn't bare thinking of!!! lol
  • I don't know what your budget is but at B&M they had some of those little handwarmers where you click the metal disc and they were in cute little knitted hot water bottle style covers with cupcakes, owls, hearts and other patterns - they were 99p each and might be cheaper than multiple hot chocs and they can take them home and recharge and reuse them.
2014 20p savers club #2 I've given up trying to keep track of how much that pig eats!
2014 £2 savers club #3 - I've no idea, but the pig is beginning to get mighty heavy

I am going to do the same for my sons birthday but it isn't until April. Instead of the boxes I am going to use bags like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/White-Paper-Carrier-Bags-Handles/dp/B005GJUJ7O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328387944&sr=8-2 Much cheaper. I m going to do half cheese and half ham s/w for most kids, I say most as I know 2 kids do not like cheese or butter so I will do just plain ham for them. I will also do a few spares just incase. I am going to do it very much like a normal lunch box with maybe one extra thing as they would of been playing football. What ever I buy depends on what is on offer.

sound fab, sadly no stores near me. Oh well, the parents have been told to wrap them up warm and send them with extra layers and we'll make sure we take our blankets along. I had over budgetted for the cost of the party anyway, so a round or 2 of hot drinks shouldn't break the bank. Fingers crossed the weather has warmed up but then too.

Could you take a large flask of hot chocolate & some cups with you, to keep the cost down? And maybe one full of tea too?

I also recommend flapjacks as a filling snack between meals. I've found they're much better than crisps or biscuits. They're also very cheap and easy to make and you could add chocolate chips (to some) to make them more suited to a special occasion. We are rather partial to chocolate chip & (soft, dried) apricot ones. ;)

what about using these containers and adding a themed napkin on top? http://www.poundland.co.uk/product-range/a-z/kitchen-corner-8-storage-containers/ then what they don't eat can be taken home with them for later :D

    P.S hope the link works.
  • I always double the food boxes up as party bags too to keep the cost down and they always love it - after all it's very McD's!

    1 cheese/cheesespread sandwich quarter
    1 ham sandwich quarter
    packet of plain crisps
packet of choc animals or similar (makes the box seem fuller)
    box of raisins
slice of birthday cake or a HM fairy cake
fruit juice carton (apple or orange 99p for 6 in Aldi)
    napkin
small toy (not cheap partybag junk, can be wrapped in any spare paper)
fruit lolly and/or kitkat/milky way stars, etc
balloon (for small children always blow up and hand out separately)

Sorted and if preferred the boxes can be handed out at the end for them to take home!

Small children are often too excited to eat much anyway. As they get older a couple more sandwich quarters, yoghurt tube, small apple, couple of cocktail sausages and/or sausage rolls, small cheese portion, kitkat/mini roll, etc can be added. Whatever is on offer really!

Have plenty of plastic cups and water/squash available too as kids always get really thirsty.
