Party Food Boxes

After getting so much good advice on this forum my daughter's wizard of oz 4th birthday party is nearly sorted :)

I am considering party food boxes for the food and I wondered if anyone had any ideas on what to include. So far i have biscuit/chocolate dip to put in and im considering the dreaded fruit shoots that seem to be mandatory at kids parties.

I don't want to give too much food as the party is in the afternoon between lunch and dinner time.

I have been left with lots of food before so this seems a good way of minimising waste.

Thanks in advance.

ther has been a thread - so worth filling in the search tool.
asda/tesco do great little rolls in their value range. you can offer jam/ham/cheese as a choice on the invite if you think this will work for you.
    we add:
    a plain buttered roll,
    pick-your-own pepparami/cheese string/rolled ham filling
tiny packet of own brand crisps
    party rings (biscuits)
sticks of cucumber + carrot in a lil bag
    apple juice carton
    possibly a mini sausage roll
    and a napkin !

  • thanks yabajaz i'll try searching again and thanks for your reply very helpful
  • I think the food boxes are a great idea. We went to a party recently and they did them, I liked the fact we could take the food away easily if we wanted so it didn't go to waste as my 2 girls were too distracted to eat much!

    How about:
    mini babybel
    mini cheddars
    grapes
    box of raisins
    innocent fruit tube
    yogurt - in squeezy tube

some of these are expensive so could be dependant on finding deals!

We done these for our DDs birthday last year. We put 2 quarters of ham and 2 quarters of cheese sandwiches, packet of hula hoops, a chocolate cupcake (think it was baling boys ones as they are individually wrapped), a small bag of strawberrys and grapes and a fruit shoot - think that was about all. HTH.
  • thanks a lot for both your great ideas :)

I am doing this for my daughters birthday. i have included:

a flavoured water cup drink (12 for £1 iceland)
a packet of animal biscuits (75p half price for 6)
a muller jelly pot & spoon (12 for £1.66 at tesco atm)
mini cupcake or muffin (bakin boys 12 for £1 atm asda)
2 quarters of a sandwich cheese (i will make up some ham too and offer as an alternative on the day)

im not sure if i will add anything else maybe raisins but the above comes to approx 50p per box.

if you dont mind me asking where are you getting your boxes from? the cheapest I can find is approx 40p each on ebay.

im hoping to negiotate a postage discount as i need so many but its still working out cheaper than the plates and cups i wanted x hth x
  • I don't want to give too much food as the party is in the afternoon between lunch and dinner time.

I would keep the contents at a snack level, instead of a meal level then.

    I would include:

    * A drink: water, fruit juice or smoothie cartons
    * 1 or 2 items of fruit/veg: grapes, small banana, carrot sticks
    * A dairy item: babybel cheese, frube or small pot of cream cheese for the carrot sticks
    * Pudding: muffin, cheddars, flapjack, small pack of biscuits, twiglets

If you want to offer more items, I'd consider a couple of sandwich triangles, a wrap sandwich chopped into small rounds, or cocktail sausages.

I would not provide more than 1 treat item or fruit shoots (or any drink with added sugar or sweeteners at such a young age for that matter.) If your daughter would really like fruit shoots, I'd happily let her have one with her birthday dinner.

Alternatively, I'm wondering of you could choose food items in keeping with your party theme and label them appropriately: a small lion bar, a (100% fruit juice) Caprisun (represents tin man due to foil packaging), potato stick crisps or carrot sticks (straw man), a red babybel (Dorothy's favourite colour due to her magical shoes) and perhaps something like yoghurt raisins (Toto's favourite dog sized treat.) I think this idea is brilliant, but I'm sure you could come up with much better food items!

    Have fun! I love children's parties. :)

You're welcome. Yeah, go themed! :D

I don't have a huge issue with fruit shoots, nor are we angels in this house diet wise with anything being banned, I just assume all parents (silently) groan when their kids are given lots of sugary snacks and drinks at parties, which seem to come several weekends in a row at times, with little else. I understand a party is a party, but at 4, it won't create any peer group issues if most options are healthy ones and they're at such a critical growing age.
