Going from a coventional boiler to a combi isn't just a case of changing the boiler, a lot of pipe work will have to change and be added.

I'd be going for a system boiler and an unvented cylinder.

And with regards to make a model, it will only be as good as the installer who fits it. Letting the installer fit one he is used to is beneficial because he will have experience with that particular boiler.

Ok I am open to suggestions can you explain a little more about this as I don't know what this is...

Basically the boiler that is currently in is like out of the ark I would say from 60s/&70s...and it keeps needed attention...I want to replace this with something that will run the central heating, a shower and hot water :0)

  • A system boiler removes any open to atmosphere points (the small f&e tank in the loft) and an unvented cylinder does the same for the hot water (removes the cold water storage tank from the loft)

Both are the most modern upgrades to a system. With the unvented cylinder the hot water would be at mains pressure.

Thanks for more explaination. All the two water tanks and the cylinder are in a cupboard in the spare room. So I guess you are saying the two water tanks(like big open boxes) would be removed. Would the curreny Cylinder need to be changed as well ?

So I would need a system boiler not a combi boiler ? Would you kow of an example ?

What you also have any idea of how much this would cost in comparision with putting in a combi boiler (quote around £1800) ?

  • £1800 to supply and fit a new combi? That's a damn good price. What boiler?

If you plan on staying in the house for some time then it's worth upgrading to a system boiler and unvented cylinder. Also a combi is great for 2 maybe 3 people but not so great for a family.

Search megaflow for an unvented cylinder.

If you get a decent engineer in and talk about what you want then he should be able to point you in the right direction.

The house is my partners now we are moving in together and dont think its a good time to sell so the plan is to rent it. We figure its not best to rent it out with current boiler hence looking into best options (cheapest as money tight). Not totally sure but suspect the house will be sold when market picks up in a couple of years.

He has not said what boiler etc trying to get him to come around mext weekend and explain more.
