Looking to repalce a really old boiler and put in a combi boiler...
I am looking for recomendations and heads up about any current deals..
The best so far seems to be BnQ at £550 a Heatline Monza which I believe is made by Vaillant...so should be good
It's for a 3 bed fairly big house with 8 rads..so I was thinking a 28KW would be the best to go for...

The 28kw is for the hot water. My boiler has an output of 12kw and it's fine for heating and I also have 8 radiators although my 3 bedroom house I wouldn't describe as fairly big.:footie:

Oh maybe a should have mentioned I am also thinking of running a shower of the system as well. Thanks for the info though I am just sounding out things to narrow down my selection... :j"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -

It's the bath fill time that is really annoying with a combi they seem to take quite a long time where as mine when filled with very hot water from the cylinder the flow rate is about 30 litres per minute. 20 litres a minute from the hot water in the cylinder and 10 litres a minute from the cold tap. It's virtually a power shower when I attach a shower to the taps.
Combi's turn the central heating off when the shower is running. It's not a problem when you only have a shower for 5 minutes or so.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

Why wouldn't I be able to have a combi boiler ?"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -
Who's going to fit it? I would expect buying on price alone will prove to be a false economy - you'll be at greater risk of break downs later (and sooner) in life. Getting a boiler fitted by an installer approved by the manufacturer will usually secure you a longer warranty period. Worcester for example are currently offering a seven year warranty on their Si and CDi models. The norm is usually one or two year warranty.
If an engineer fits a boiler they supplied, you should be able to call them back to fix it within the warranty period at their cost, whereas if you supply the boiler and then employ the engineer to fit it, if it breaks down and its not due to a problem with how it was fitted, you'll have to pay the labour to fix the replacement parts.0 -

Well everyman and his dog thinks they can have a combi! Did the RGI's who have quoted check your water pressure/flow properly?
Just because someone says you can have a combi doesn't mean you can. If the incoming water pressure/flow isnt correct then you cant have one and, I may be wrong here, the manufacturer may not honour a warranty if you complain about your new boiler and the problem is incorrect incoming water pressure/flow.
You must check the standing pressure at a mains tap then turn on another mains supplied tap to see what your working pressure falls to, if it drops too low then a combi wont work properly. Then the flow at one mains tap needs checking then checking again with another mains tap running. I've lost count how many combi's have been fitted to houses without enough pressure/flow.
Just ask, it wont hurt and may save you a headache later.0 -
i'd have a heat only boiler with a megaflo if i had the choice
combi wise you can't go wrong with worcester or vaillant, even ideal have come along way, the ideal logic plus comes with a 5 year warrenty aswell0 -
