Train Ticket Refund

My colleague & I had a very prolonged journey from Leeds to Leicester because of a signal problem - we were told by the conductor that someone had stolen the cabling! Anyway, the same conductor said we should make a claim due to delay which I did. Today I received 2 £10 travel vouchers for Northern Trains. Now I am very unlikely to travel using Northern for the foreseeable future & they are only valid for 12 months so does anyone know if I can send them back & request cash? If not, any idea what I can do with them, I'd rather give them away than bin them.
Many thanks.

Their use is not confined to Northern trains - any rail company will take them0
