  • I stayed at the Hampton by Hilton Berlin City West (sorry, not allowed to post link) and it was really great. I paid around £46 a night because I booked it way in advance. Brekkie is included (not full english just buffet) and the rooms were of a Hilton standard. The location was really handy - around a 5-10 minute walk from the Zoologischer Garten which as well as being a main line station is also the location for Berlin Zoo. Even if you're not crazy about zoo's make sure you take a look because it's really is one of the best in Europe (pandas!)

Take a look on Tripadvisor before you book though. It's how I found the above hotel.

I don't understand why people would want to stay near the zoo, it's so far from everything. Mitte is a much better bet and a reasonably short walk into the centre. I stayed at the Tryp Berlin, which is about as far north as you would want to be and just a minute away from Naturkunde Museum Metro.

I agree strongly with VfM4meplse. Mitte is best.

Have you checked Novotel Mitte ? Depending on your fitness as it is on the edge of Mitte it involves 10 minutes of walking else organised use of buses or trams to get up to Alexanderplatz or across to Friedrichstrasse but it was good value last time we stayed.

Otherwise do check for special deals - we have also stayed at Westin Grand 4 or 5 times on lastminute and expedia deals.
  • Please bear in mind that Germany is a country which hosts many many trade fairs, congresses,
conferences, festivals etc. When one of these is taking place in a city hotel prices will rocket due
    to the demand.

Is there such an event taking place in Berlin on your dates or do your dates perhaps span a holiday
weekend? (there can be more than one in May).

Berlin has a glut of hotels and value for money is generally superb. Can you tell us where you have been looking for hotels ie what websites and what your exact dates are?
  • we are travelling on tuesday 22 may-Mon 28 May..

i have been looking at hotels but i really dont know which area they are in( looked at so many)
i havent got a problem with walking..

I have sent for a guide book so we will plan our itinery once we get that....
i will feel a lot happier once we have booked somewhere.

do you think i am asking for trouble if i wanted to spend 2 days out of berlin ( thurs and fri) in a small village( harz mountain area) or shall i just stick to berlin on this trip..:D
  • I agree with others on Mitte, much better than around the zoo. How about Prenzlauer Berg too? I've not stayed there but went to quite a few bars there and it should be cheaper?

We stayed there, didn't have a problem with it, Free wi-fi and bottles of cold beer from a machine (sadly not free) if you wake up thirsty in the night, also just 5 mins from all the local transport connections you could want..
  • well the Ibis is coming up as over £400 for 6 nights ( avg rate of £67 per night)..

dont want to pay that being a money saver...:D

any more options/codes/best hotel booking sites??
