EON electricity HELP!
Hello everyone,
This is my first time on a forum, ever. I'm a big MSE follower though and I really need advice.
I'm a recent graduate and the transition from the easy life of "all bills included" to the real world is proving difficult.
I'm renting a 1 bedroomed flat which is just electric, no gas. My provider is EON and I'm on Heatwise Energy Plan. My neighbour downstairs is on the same. He moved in a month after me and came over to chat last night about the bills. We both thought hey seemed really high - we pay more for 1 bed flats than his mum does for a 4 bed house I discovered last night! Anyway, he rang EON and they offered to install a Economy 7 meter for him for free which they said should halve his bills. When I rang up today I had a really unhelpful man called Ian who told me I'd have to pay £60 for a new meter as its oly free for valued customers. My neighbour has been with them a month less than me and he hasn't moved an old contract as he's been living abroad for the past two years.
I just don't know what to do. My flat baffles me. I have storage heaters. I read online that you have them on overnight then swtich them off during the day but Ian from EON said I'm suppose to have them on all the time?
As I'm renting I don't know if I should get a fixed plan or not. Can I move energy providers or is my meter a wierd one which will prevent that? I'm totally new to all this but my bills do seem very high and I don't really have anyone else to ask. Hope someone can help, I'd really really really appreciate it!
Thanks

You need to find the cost per unit.
Your bill will have units used, use a calculator to divide the bottom line bill by units used
then compare them to other providers costs per unit.
Forget all the spin, smoke, mirrors, they are just to hide extra charges
Switch to the electrical company that provides lowest cost per unit.
Another tip is wait whilst the house is busy and switch everything electrical off, every socket, every switch and go see if the meter is clocking up.
you may be paying for someone else.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Welcome to the forum adpo. I’m sorry that it’s a bad experience with us, that’s prompted you to join.
Sounds like Ian didn’t explain things very well to you and I can see why it’s not really helped at all.
First of all we value all of our customer’s. When it comes to meter changes of this kind then there is normally a charge, we’d only change the meter free of charge under special circumstances.
Heatwise meters do work differently to Economy 7, so when you’re researching online about your storage heaters make sure that you look for any references to Heatwise.
Your property probably has this type of meter for a reason and before you think about changing, you’ll need to arrange for an electrician will to come and check the wiring.
Your storage heaters and immersion should be set to come on when you get the cheaper rates of electricity and this isn’t just overnight.
My colleague Malc posted some excellent info about Heatwise on another thread so is worth searching ‘Heatwise’ on the forum for some help.
This is the one I was thinking of for you:

Whist you’ve got this Heatwise set up, you’re limited to your current tariff, it’s essentially a comfort plan so not always the cheapest but as its electric heating that‘s normally pricy, you can get your bills down by making sure that things are coming on when they should.
I appreciate that calling us again doesn’t seem a good idea but I suspect that Ian was in our general contact centre so may have lacked the knowledge to be able to answer your queries.
He should have referred you to our Energy Enquiries (consumption) team. They’ll have more experience with this type of problem and be able to confirm the off peak times for your meter so worth giving them a try.
If you need our help at all, just let us know
