should I be chasing this with the courier company who shouldn't have left the parcel with my neighbour without my consent?
Most of us are grateful when the courier leaves a parcel with the neighbours. You have received the parcel so have no complaint with the delivery company.
I have given you the answer you need as per the crocs website (perhaps the returns address is in the UK if you are lucky).
The order was actually only 4 days overdue.0 -
I bought directly from what I understood to be Croc's UK website (.co.uk), in sterling. Only after receiving confirmation of order do I realise they are Crocs.eu
It does actually say on their 'Terms and Conditions of Trade' that you ticked to say you'd read BEFORE you checked out and in their FAQ and various other places on the website that they are based in NL and all orders are dispatched from NL. I can't see how you failed to realise until after you'd ordered TBH, it's pretty clear.
At least you'll have learned always to read the T&C's you're agreeing to before placing an online order.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
It tells you quite clearly in the FAQ that your order is shipped from Netherlands. Also on Shipping rates/policy page it gives prices for shipping to various EU countries.
It also informs you via Terms of Use that the website operates under laws of the Netherlands.
Not much use now I know but personally I always check out the terms and conditions before ordering to see where the company is based and if they are governed by UK law or not. EDIT: Ahhhh I see peachy posted while i was typing
If the DSRs in Netherlands are identical to ours, they have 30 days to perform the contract - which is what they have done in this case. And if you wish to cancel, it must be in a durable form. The problem is (as someone else pointed out) is that even if you did have legal grounds to challenge it, it would be very difficult if not impossible to enforce given they are not operating from the UK.
So perhaps write to them explaining the situation if they will reimburse you.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Did you actually contact them before dispatch to at least try and cancel the order?
Yes, I rang them after 2 weeks, they said an order can't be cancelled once placed (I knew that already from reading the T&C's). They then told me why they had failed to notice my order for 2 weeks. Their advice was to refuse delivery, which all seemed fine until I wasn't in to refuse it.
The order was actually 10 days overdue, I received it today, I ordered on the 11th, that makes it 20 days from order to delivery, as opposed to their 10 days. I think we do have a high expectation of despatch speeds these days, its pretty impressive really. I thought 10 days was a bit long in all honesty but thought they were just covering themselves for the odd occassion things get delayed. Twice that I think is unreasonable though.
In my experience, you tend to only read the FAQ in the event of a problem or question, not before ordering, unless you had reason to suspect the company was a bit dodgy.
Thanks for all your comments, hindsight is such a wonderful thing isn't it.0 -
