New Scam circling?

I'm getting one or two of these calls a day at the minute. Mostly I just let the phone go to voicemail but it is really starting to get annoying. The bit I worry about though is that they have my name - I'm really careful who I give my home no to. Anyone have any idea how they would have got hold of this info?
I confess I'm afraid to take any real action because the last time I was pretty unpleasant to someone like this I got calls in the middle of the night for a week or so...0 -
They tried it with an elderly relative of mine who doesn't even own a computer.0

Have had a few of these calls, I just tell them that I know they are scammers and they hang up.0

I am happily winding up Douglas from somewhere, so far I have had him on the phone for about an hour, 7 separate phone calls and he is phoning me tomorrow to see if I can get connected to the internet yet.
He wants me to connect to the internet so that he can get rid of the virus that is stopping me connecting to the internet.
And he can't see the problem with that.
Roll on tomorrow.
p.s I am stuck at home with a broken leg, I don't normally wind people up :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I had a call like this a while ago, He persistantly told me I had a virus on my computer and I kept on telling him that there was nothing wrong with my computer. Eventually I stopped him and said 'Look, I am not EVER going to give you access to my computer, good bye'.
I then put the phone down and have not heard from him again YET!0 -
We had a call like this last week we just hung up

I used to get these calls. I quite miss them. It used to be an amusing distraction stringing a scammer along and seeing how long I could keep him on the phone for while making increasingly absurd remarks, which often involved inappropriate, leery comments about joysticks, refusing to acknowledge I owned a computer but did own a laptop and making up long, completely unrelated stories that didn't really go anywhere while I pretended to be doing things on my computer.0

Ex got it at his house, he said he didn't use windows, they said "oh macintosh no problem" he said no I use linux, and the guy started waffling on and he ended up swearing down the phone.
Some people not in the know may well fall for it though.0 -
I get several of those phone calls a week from idiots in Africa. If I'm at a loose end I'll string them along for as long as humanly possible. I can't believe that people fall for the "I'm calling from Microsoft and our records show that your computer is sending error-reports". What error-reports, and the only Microsoft software I have was not bought in my name and neither is the computer I'm using.0
