charged for switching home phone. ?

hi

i'm with sky for home phone/broadband - have honoured my one year contract and now moving to orange.

orange ran a line test and said that because the line is tagged that they have to send an engineer out at a cost of £60.

doesn't really seem fair that you have to pay to go with someone new - and not sure what they mean when they say the line is tagged, or something about it being an mmp line? (might have misheard that though).

thanks

Obviously, Sky had moved the line to their own rack of equipment in the BT exchange and so Orange had to pay an Openreach engineer to move it from there back onto the BT rack. Someone has to pay and, clearly, Orange decided it should be you rather than them absorbing the cost in order to get a new customer.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
