One radiator doesn't heat up???

Options
I hope some one can help. We have a radiator in one room upstairs that doesn't heat up, it use to but now is stone cold :(. The pipes connected to it are also cold. Any suggestions on what I could do to fix it would be really appreciated.

Buy a key, open the air valve on the top and let the air out.

  • Sorry should have said, have already done that, theres no air trapped in it just cold water. But thats about as far as my plumbing knowledge goes.
  • as said may be just air,, as it been drained down ?? if not as it got a thermostatic valve?? if so these can jam closed or the thermostatic head can fail ......if its a combie is the pressure low???? it sounds very likly to be the valve
  • Most likely cause is a stuck thermostatic radiator valve (TRV). Tap the metal side of it with a hammer and keep doing it, not so hard as to break anything but vigorously enough until the little pipe coming up to it from the floor gets warm. (when the heating is on obviously)

Most unlilkely cause as it's upstairs is a blockage, turn off every other radiator and it'll start to work, turn the others back on.

  • we had a similar issue, only one radiator would not work, after turning all others off then it would work, but as soon as all others came on, then it stopped again.

    A powerflush sorted it out.
