PPI Confusion, advice appreciated

I have just seen an advertisement on the tv about reclaiming PPI where it says check now, so I have got all my documents out & am confused, it would be appreciated if anyone could advise me on two situations please?

Firstly, In 2003 I took out a 7 year bank loan & a couple of years later renewed it. According to the paperwork in front of me I signed for PPI but don't ever remember being asked if I required it.
In 2005 I had to leave work as my wife became extremely poorly & I had to become her full time carer - I didn't claim on the PPI as I didn't know I was covered!

Secondly, my brother & myself obtained a joint mortgage & it was compulsory that we both took insurance out (where should one of us die the mortgage would be paid off in full) with the bank who gave us the mortgage.
Unfortunately my brother had a fatal accident in 2006 so the mortgage was paid off which understandably was a lot of worry from my shoulders, but we were forced to take this PPI out.

I'm unsure what to do about both of these situations e.g has the time window to claim elapsed & do we have a case/s at all?

Once again, any help would be really appreciated

You will need to put a claim in for mis sell(if you have reasons) for both these loans,as remaining ppi from the first loan, less any rebate will have been carried over to the next loan.

Dont think you would have been covered anyway,as you made yourself "redundant",put this in your complaint, this part of the ppi from that date was of no use to you, although you would have had life insurance, but you may have been able to get a cheaper life insurance.
Secondly, my brother & myself obtained a joint mortgage & it was compulsory that we both took insurance out (where should one of us die the mortgage would be paid off in full) with the bank who gave us the mortgage.

Was this ppi just life insurance?,if it was, then it did what it said on the tin, albeit with the loss of your brother, had you not got this insurance, you would be left to repay this mortgage.

Think it would be hard to prove that you were told to take it,this is hearsay.
How much was the ppi and what did the insurance pay to clear the mortgage?,if you had a claim for mis sell and got redress, the payout would most likely have been more than the ppi,if that was the case you would get nothing,as you claimed more than the product was worth.
I am not experienced with mortgage ppi, hopefully dunstonh or magpie cottage will see your post and answer more fully.

Regarding the loans, look here for reasons for mis sell

If any/all apply to you then put a claim in,good luck.
  • Thank you very much. I best not try on either then :(
I can't prove I didn't know anything about the ppi on the bank loans due to signing the form (which is here in front of me)

PPI doesnt pay out on death. Life assurance does. Good job they told you take it out too as it cleared the mortgage when needed.

Most people take out life assurance on a mortgage. its common sense and you, more than many others can see why. A complaint would be considered frivolous as it did the job it needed to do and you wouldnt get anything from a complaint.

  • yes I understand & thank you very much, would it be pointless to try for the loan/s ppi ?

If you have reasons for mis sell with the loan, then put a claim in.
