Hi
I have been given a memory stick which has various club letters and files on.
I need to send a letter out in the next few days, and it is on this stick.
When I plug it in to my computer nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? I assumed that once I plugged it in, all relevant documents etc would be on my computer and I could amend/print off as required.
Do I need to do something else or is it perhaps just not compatible?
Sorry if I sound a bit thick,
and thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

What happens when you plug it in, does a pop up appear on the bottom right, new harware found? Have you looked in my computer to see if its there and lastly have you tried a different usb port, preferably at the back of the pc
I have nothing better to do!!!!

look in my computer for a removable memory or storage0

As long as your running win98se or above the stick should show up as another drive in 'My Computer'. You should then beable to open this as you would anyother driver and click on the file you need to access, which should then luanch the relivent programme.
Are you getting anything from the pc when you plug the stick in ? There's normal a default sound attched to pluging in a USB device...0 -
No haven't tried new USB port. Will try one at the back now. Do I then need to switch computer off and on again, or should it find it anyway? Nothing on 'my computer' and no pop up on bottom right hand of screen. 'Safely remove hardware' icon - if I click on that it just has the modem??0

you don't need to power down, all (most !) USB devices are hot swap.
Which op system are you running ?0 -
I am on windows XP. On My Computer & then devices with removable storage, there is 3 1/2" floppy (A:) and DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:). Should the memory stick be showing there?0

yes, it should show under removable storage in my computer0

That's where it should be, if you leave that screen up and plug the stick in, it should appear after a few sec's... Do other USB device work when pluged into the same port ?0

Use the Device Manager to scan for new hardware. Follow these steps: 1.Click Start, and then click Run.2.Type Devmgmt.msc in the Open box, and then click OK. 3.On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. This causes Windows to recognize new devices. 4.Close Device Manager and Control Panel.
I have nothing better to do!!!!
