Outlook 2010 - Default Email Probs

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone out there can help me.

I've just started using Outlook 2010 and it's driving me nuts.

I have 5 email addresses set up, all going into the same inbox, same as I've had for the past goodness knows how many years with Outlook 2007. However, there's now this 'default' tick against the main email address but emails for all the other addresses are disappearing as soon as they arrive, I can only assume it's to do with setting this address as the default. Having checked my old PC I didn't have any set as default and they all quite happily arrived into my inbox.

Has anyone esle had this problem and how on earth can I opt out of having a default address It seems, unless I'm missing something, with 2010 you HAVE to have an account selected as default and it will ignore emails received from all the other addresses. That pretty much makes setting up multiple address totally pointless.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Something like this you may get a better answer from the Office forum here:

  • To get all emails to arrive in the same inbox your need to delete the data files outlook 2010 creates when you add those new email accounts. Make sure theres no data in them first.
Then go into Accounts > Data tab

E.g. In outlook2010 down the left handside do you see your email accounts listed.

    E.g.
    \/ tom@company1.co.uk
    inbox
    outbox
    sent items

    >tom@company2.co.uk
    >tom@company3.co.uk
    >tom@company3.co.uk
    etc.

Are you sure these two things are linked.

As far as I know the default account is simply a way of telling Outlook which of your email addresses to use when you create a new email or reply to an incoming email.

If you are replying to a mail sent to address 4 and your default is address 1 then that's the email address the reply goes from unless you click on the from box and select address 4 or one of the other listed addresses.

The problem of the missing emails shouldn't be linked to the default account setting.

Is there a rule set up to do something to emails from other addresses?

Are they being sent to the junk folder as spam?
One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.
