There's no doubt that the fight sequences are superb - hand to hand combat scenes are performed amazingly well, even better than the famous Oldboy side-scrolling fightscene. However, a film can't just be a load of stunt sequences packed together - it needs something to glue the pieces into a coherent narrative. The Raid's plot is non-existent - any attempt at describing a story is flimsy in the extreme. Within 10 mins of the action really kicking off, I could have come up with 3 or 4 ways of getting the protaganists out of the situation, but they seemed happier just to show off their fighting skills.
Genuinely, it wouldn't have mattered if they hadn't bothered subtitling it - the film would have been exactly the same without any words at all.
Disappointing. Felt more like watching a demonstration of impressive stunts than a film.
The movie is about violence, action, violence, action and more violence. It has a decent enough story line for what it aims to be - an action packed fight ride with sufficient emphasis on the story. Does it achieve this - Yes.
If you were to put The Raid into a category, you wouldn't place it alongside movies like Memento, Inception, The Usual Suspects, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile etc etc. You would place it in a pool with greats such as Enter The Dragon, Legend Of The Drunken Master, Fong Sai Yuk, The Expendables, Ong Bak, IP Man and others. The Raid not only holds up in the latter, it tops the list in my opinion. Great acting, good twists in the story and the fight scenes were incredible.
If you are thinking about 'Plot holes' or 'I could have thought of a way to get them out', then this movie isn't for you. It wasn't made to make you think, it was made to make you go WOW.
I believe you can analyse every movie made to date and think of something that was missed by the creators of it. I would welcome you to name ANY movie that you highly rate and I am certain, I will find something in it that was missed.0 -

What do you do if your "reprint my tickets" for a Virgin Media screening is producing an error page? Everytime I click on it, I receive an error page. I presume, I can print off my original email and have them check my name at the door?0

Mine doesn't work either. Your original email has the ticket or if you click on the link in the reprint your tickets email and change the first part from:
https://www.media-promotions2.com/
to
https://www.vm-moviesfirst.com/
That should work.0 -

Just a reminder to folks to keep checking SFF, SKY etc re the tickets.
I just managed to bag some tickets, which had been unavailable earlier.
There are always last minute cancellations, so there is always a chance to grab a ticket, even on the day of the screening.0
