I went to the preview of 'What If' last week (it's on general release today).
I found it utterly charmless, trite and predictable. Daniel Radcliffe is not suited to romcoms (no matter what people still recovering from his Harry Potter incarnation think!) - he has neither the comic timing, nor, dare I say it, the physical attributes. I really think he should stick to straight dramatic roles.
Great efforts were taken by the director to disguise that Daniel was shorter than his co-star, Zoe Kazan (as a Kooky Zooy Deschanel looky-likey in this film) - but I kept noticing. They didn't look like a matched pair at all. And even though he was cast as the geek who sets his heart on a girl out of his league - I still couldn't see any reason why the heroine would be remotely interested in him.
Am wryly amused that the tv/film trailer adverts for this film claim that it is "this year's must-see romantic comedy" and that is laugh-out loud funny.
It isn't. In fact I didn't laugh once, and neither did anyone else in the theatre.0 -

I've got to say I disagree with...well basically everything.
Everyone in my screen laughed heartily throughout the film, I found Radcliffe to be very charming and witty and entertaining in an awkward geeky kind of way (which is exactly what he was playing).
Zoe Kazan (as an actress) was neither out of his league nor portrayed (as the character) as being out of his league, she was portrayed as being as big a geek as he was - if not more; and I have no idea what his height has to do with anything (not that I actually noticed). Being tall is not a universal indicator of being attractive; if it were, Tom Cruise wouldn't have been one of the highest grossing movie heartthrobs of all time.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and Radcliffe's acting throughout, would have happily paid for it, and have recommended it to others.0 -
Absolutely agree with LouFace re What If.0

NIGHT MOVES is the story of three radicals coming together to execute the most intense protest of their lives: the explosion of a hydroelectric dam—the very source and symbol of the energy-sucking, resource-devouring industrial culture they despise. Josh (Jesse Eisenberg), the leader, is a self-made militant, devoted to the protection of the Earth by any means necessary. He’s an intensely private person by nature and may have the deepest convictions of them all. Dena (Dakota Fanning) is a high society dropout, sickened by the consumer economy into which she was born. She’s cut ties with her family, edging ever deeper into radical politics. Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard) is a former Marine, radicalized by tours of duty overseas. At heart he remains the same reckless alpha male he always was, eager for adventure, excited by the prospect of mayhem and destruction.
The blowing up of the dam catalyses a series of unforeseen dramatic events; friendships are put to the test as the paranoia of being exposed begins to take hold, resulting in a thrilling, unpredictable climax.
Don’t miss this razor sharp, gripping thriller this summer.

While I agree that it wasn't the most brilliant Rom Com according to databases Daniel is slightly taller than Zoeand there were some laughs from the audience where I watched and Rafe Spall was quite good, acting obviously runs in the family there x Also Adam Driver was very watchable"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138

It's nice to read other's opinions of 'What If', we are all different in what we want from a film.
Personally, I still think it's a stinker, but good to see that Daniel still has his fan base!
And tomorrow... I take on Justin Bieber's Beliebers!;)

The Keeper of Lost Causes @Picturehouses Sunday 24th August at 11am Need to check SFF Facebook at midday 22Aug14. I had an email on 21st so I assume code will be released on 22nd.
About the film
Based on the award-winning novel Mercy, the first of the bestselling Department Q crime fiction series by Jussi Adler-Olsen, THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES is a powerful and gripping thriller starring Nikolaj Lie Kaas (The Killing), Sonja Richter (The Homesman) and Fares Fares (Zero Dark Thirty, Safe House) from the screenwriter of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Carl Mørck (Kaas) is a troubled detective who takes the fall when his partner is wounded during a routine operation. Reassigned to the newly created Department Q, a basement-bound job filing cold cases, he is allocated a new assistant, Assad (Fares), a smart young Muslim cop. Always one to go against orders, Mørck throws them headlong into the mystery of a politician’s disappearance (Richter) five years earlier. Believing the case to be unsolved, they embark on a dangerous journey that will uncover a shocking truth, leading to a thrilling and unforgettable climax.
If you would like tickets, check out our Facebook Page tomorrow at midday. We'll post the code there for those that are interested after watching the trailer.

I quite like Dan Rad but I found What If to be mediocre. It just didn't gel well for me.0

:T:T In that case the rules should be applied fairly, quoia's post about subtitles is chat and therefore should also be deleted.0
