If you missed out on tickets, for Headhunters, at Picturehouse 1st April, code is live again.
  • Hey guys,

I've got tickets from one code for The Cabin In The Woods. My friend has tickets from another code for the same film, same venue. Can/Will we be going to the same screening in the same screen, or will there be multiple screenings where my friend and I have to go to different screens?

    Thanks

I've never known of more than one screening starting at the same time in a particular venue.
Sometimes they have one screening after another. (earlier/later)
It's just they put out several codes for various reasons (advertising through various channels/competitions/Subscribers etc.)

If we're talking about non freebie films we've been to that were good, then some that stand out over the past few months were: We need to talk about Kevin, The Artist, The Ides of March and Coriolanus. The Guard was also Fantastic. Saw it in a small independent cinema in London and then at home on DVD. Dark funny and compelling all at once.

Nice one! The Guard was my favourite film of last year, and it was criminally ignored at awards time, with just a single BAFTA nomination for best screenplay and a complete snub from Oscar. Brendan Gleeson should have had at least a nomination without a doubt.

I'm sure you know already, but it was written and directed by John McDonagh, brother of Martin, who directed the equally excellent In Bruges.

We Need to talk About Kevin was similarly snubbed at the Oscars, as was Young Adult (Theron should have at least been nominated), and I loved them both.
  • The Cabin in the Woods! Saw it last night, later that night everyone went to bed on me and I had to check all the doors/windows were shut and locked, was expecting nasties to happen to me at any time!

    I'm a wimp!

Did you like it? I thought it was a really bizarre film!

I nearly didn't get to see it - I arrived at 5.45pm and was told the film had only just been delivered and it was going to take an hour to 90 mins to set up. The girl advised me to come back at 6.20pm, so I did and there were only front row seats left!! Luckily I didn't get too much of a crick in my neck as the seats were still a way from the screen.
  • I went with a friend; we're both Joss Whedon fans but not horror fans. We thought it was very clever and hilarious -- but also creepy and gory, and I'm not going to let my 15 year old (mad Buffy fan) see it in the cinema (so she'll probably sneak out in the Easter hols...).
Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.
  • I have got tickets to see it again with Sky, not sure if I'm brave enough to see it again, I liked it, but agree creepy, gory true slasher style!

At the start I thought I was in the wrong film as I couldn't see how
it was going to become a teen cabin in the woods flick!

I so would have at the end! What about you? Peeps who have seen it will know what I mean, say if anyone thinks it's too much of a spoiler and I will remove!

  • Afraid I thought Cabin in the Woods was a complete load of tosh. Were they attempting black humour? In the screening I went to, not one person laughed.

The characters were paper-thin and I didn't care a fig about any of them, so I didn't care how they were diced and sliced. The 'twist' was revealed after only a few minutes, so no suspense there! In fact I was yawning after the one hour mark.

Not a fan of gore anyway, I think it de-sensitises people. I wouldn't recommend this film. There are far, far better ways to spend 90 minutes of your life - and I think even the distributors know this, hence the mass handout of free tickets.

I was quite embarrassed that I had persuaded my 20 year old daughter to see it with her male friend. We all thought it was terrible. The mashing of genres was abysmal.
Everyone who came out of Exeter seemed to think it was carp. My first free film for ages...:o
