Walt Disney Pictures is proud to announce the UK release date of SAVING MR BANKS, the extraordinary untold story of how one of the most beloved tales of all time, Mary Poppins, was bought to the big screen. The film will be released nationwide on November 29th, 2013. Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks star in the film which will be closing the 2013 London Film Festival with its European premiere on October 20th, 2013. When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ Mary Poppins, he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation. For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp. It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history. Disney presents SAVING MR BANKS, directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Alison Owen, Ian Collie and Philip Steuer, and written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Executive producers are Paul Trijbits, Andrew Mason, Troy Lum and Christine Langan.

Surely serendipity2706, a member since March 2006 would
    a) be able to read that the info posted on codes only is duplicated
    and
    b) that two of the events are not film and again are duplicated as the info already appears on the relevant thread. :(

    Could a BG please delete.

    Thanks

Just got back from seeing Bad Grandpa. I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it as I'm not a Jackass fan, but it was hilarious! Would definitely recommend it. The little boy in it is a star in the making.

I saw Philomena this morning and thought it was fantastic - both moving and funny. Definitely worth a watch.

Just got back from seeing 'One Chance' really enjoyed it. Great story and casting all round, moving in parts, funny in others. I didn't know much about Paul Potts story and it was definitely worth telling, plus I love a happy ending

Thanks for this - I have tickets for tomorrow night, and was seriously considering cancelling.
Reviews are not very good, and reading up on storyline, I am not into X factor etc so thought it might be a waste of a night.

Went to see Saving Mr Banks last night. Really enjoyed the film - great story, excellent casting, funny but sad at other times.

One of those rare moments at the end, when the audience did not rush out as soon as the credits started rolling.

Has made me want to watch Mary Poppins again!
