Does anyone know how i can cure the damp, could it just be furniture etc too close to wall?

Perhaps if you describe the symptoms and location relative to furniture, there's more chance of a good answer. Placing furniture close to a wall can lead to mould e.g. blackish patches.

Sounds like a condensation issue to me, unless a gutter is leaking outside. If so you need to improve the ventilation.

Sounds like condensation to me too. Especially as you have stopped using the central heating so much.

Do you get any condensation on that room's window first thing in the morning?
